Dream a Little Dream

As a kid I had all these dreams. I’m sure you did to. Maybe you wanted to be a veterinarian or a teacher, a doctor, lawyer, or maybe you wanted to get married and have kids. But there’s this unfortunate thing that happens to dreams-you wake up. For some of us, we began to believe that our dreams were a total farce. Circumstances, life events, and reality seeped in and either out of embarrassment, shame, or fear we left our dreams in our childhood.

See, no matter how you look at it, one thing happened, we began to doubt if our dreams were real.

Mark 11:20-24– In the morning, as they went along, they saw the fig tree withered from the roots. Peter remembered and said to Jesus. “Rabbi, look! The fig tree you cursed has withered!” “Have faith in God,” Jesus answered. “I tell you the truth, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him. Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.

I don’t want my dreams to wither and turn to dust like the fig tree. I want them back. Jesus said, “[if you do not doubt in your heart] but believe that what he says is going to happen, it will be granted.” I like promises from God because they cannot be false. Some of us have to go back to where our dream began, some have to drag it out of a childhood memory, but I believe God wants us to dream again. Those are His dreams, His desires that He put on our hearts a very long time ago when we were young.

Look at the Bible for one moment. God told Noah to build an ark and expect rain, although they had never even seen rain before. God told Abraham that he would be the feather of many nations after he was already past the childrearing years. God gave Joseph, a slave, a dream that he would be second in command in all Egypt. These aren’t little dreams. These are big, enormous dreams! Our God is a big God and He wants His children to trust that He can do GREAT and WONDERFUL, ENORMOUSLY BIG things in their lives.
